Autumn Leaves and Strange Rocks at Natadera Temple
A famous temple where the contrast of white strange rocks and autumn leaves was praised in poetry by Basho
Natadera Temple, with a 1300-year history since its founding, is an ancient temple of Hakusan faith. The Kiseki Yusenkyō (Strange Rock Wonderland) spread throughout the temple grounds presents a fantastical landscape where moss and autumn leaves add color to the white tuff rock formations. It is also known for being praised by Matsuo Basho in his poem 'Whiter than the stones of Ishiyama, the autumn wind.' The autumn foliage season in November is particularly breathtaking. With abundant attractions including the main hall, three-story pagoda, and Kuri Shoin (all Important Cultural Properties), this is a must-visit destination that pairs well with the Kaga Onsen area.
