Engyoji Temple, located on Mount Shosha in Himeji City, Hyogo Prefecture, is an ancient Tendai Buddhist temple also known as the Hieizan of the West. Taking the ropeway up the mountain, a magnificent temple complex emerges from deep within the forest. The Sannodo (consisting of the Daikodo main hall, Jikido dining hall, and Jogyodo hall), known as a filming location for the movie "The Last Samurai," is breathtaking in scale. Also renowned as a famous autumn foliage spot, the temple grounds are painted in brilliant colors during fall. Visitors can participate in sutra copying and Zen meditation experiences, spending time centering their minds in tranquil silence.
