Uryū-shō Wetland Trekking
One of Japan's finest alpine wetlands – Uryū-shō Wetland. Walk the wooden boardwalks through the Ezo daylily flower fields and scattered pond groups.
The Uryū-shō Wetland, spreading across the mountainside of Shokanbetsu Mountain in Uryū Town, is one of Japan's finest alpine wetlands situated at an elevation of approximately 850 meters. Registered under the Ramsar Convention, in July the yellow Ezo daylily flowers bloom across the entire wetland. A roughly 3-hour trekking course on wooden boardwalks through a fantastical landscape dotted with approximately 700 ponds. The world beyond the steep ascent from the trailhead is worth the effort to reach.
