Hirosaki Castle
One of Japan's 12 existing original castle keeps. Famous as one of Japan's premier cherry blossom viewing spots, with approximately 2,600 cherry trees blooming in full glory each spring.
Hirosaki Castle is a castle built in 1611, with its existing original keep reconstructed in 1810. Located within Hirosaki Park, the 'Hirosaki Cherry Blossom Festival' in spring, where approximately 2,600 Somei Yoshino cherry trees bloom in full splendor simultaneously, is known as one of Japan's most celebrated cherry blossom viewing destinations. The 'flower raft'—fallen petals blanketing the water's surface in the moat—is breathtakingly beautiful. It can be enjoyed throughout all four seasons, from autumn foliage to the winter snow lantern festival. Currently, the rare sight of the castle keep being relocated for stone wall repairs is also on display.
