The night view from the observation deck at the summit of Hakodate Mountain is a spectacular sight counted as one of Japan's three greatest night views. From the 334-meter-high summit, the cityscape pinched between the Tsugaru Strait and Hakodate Bay on both sides spreads into full view, with the city lights sparkling like scattered jewels. The ropeway takes about 3 minutes to reach the summit, and a restaurant is also located at the observation deck. The winter night view, especially when the air is clear, possesses exceptional beauty. The magic hour immediately after sunset is said to be the most beautiful time to visit.
