Goryokaku Winter Illumination
Star-shaped illumination that lights up Goryokaku in winter. The glowing star viewed from the tower is a signature winter feature of Hakodate.
From December to February each year, approximately 2,000 light bulbs are lit along the moat of Goryokaku, creating a giant star-shaped illumination that appears to float. When viewed from the observation deck of Goryokaku Tower, the glowing five-pointed star against the snowy landscape is fantastical. The contrast of the light reflecting in the moat with the snow is beautiful, and it's recommended for evening walks as well. At the adjacent Siesta Hakodate, you can enjoy the illumination while warming yourself with a hot beverage.
