Oze-ga-hara Hiking
Oze-ga-hara, the setting of the famous song "Summer Memories." A healing journey walking on wooden boardwalks through wetlands where skunk cabbage and Nikko day lilies bloom.
Oze-ga-hara is Honshu's largest wetland, spreading at an elevation of approximately 1,400m, and is a national park and Ramsar Convention registered wetland. It changes its expression with the seasons: skunk cabbage in late May, Nikko day lilies in July, and autumn foliage of grasses in September. The hiking course along well-maintained wooden boardwalks is relatively flat and can be enjoyed even by those who lack confidence in their physical fitness. Plans combining with mountain climbing of Mt. Shibutsu or Mt. Hiuchigatake are also popular. Staying overnight at a mountain lodge allows you to encounter the mystical scenery of wetlands wrapped in a starry sky and early morning mist.
