Numata River Terrace View
One of Japan's finest river terrace views. A magnificent panorama of the Tone River and Tanigawa mountain range as seen from Numata Castle ruins.
Numata City is renowned for having one of Japan's most prominent river terrace landforms. From Numata Castle Ruins Park, a panoramic view unfolds with the Tone River flowing below and the distant Tanigawa mountain range. The terrace cliff has a height difference of approximately 70 meters, and its scale is so impressive it appears in textbooks. This historic castle town is associated with the Sanada clan and is popular among historical drama fans. The autumn foliage season is particularly beautiful, and it's recommended to visit together with the nearby Fukiware Falls (the Niagara of the East). The local specialty miso manjuu (sweet bun) is also delicious.
