Goryokaku Tower
An observation tower offering a panoramic view of the star-shaped Goryokaku fortress. Also famous as a cherry blossom viewing spot in spring.
Goryokaku Tower is a 107-meter observation tower that offers an aerial panoramic view of Goryokaku, Japan's first Western-style fortress. From the observation deck, you can view the entire beautiful star-shaped fortress, and in spring, approximately 1,600 Somei Yoshino cherry trees bloom, creating a breathtaking pink star-shaped landscape. In winter, illuminations create a magical sight with the star shape brilliantly lit. Inside the tower, there are exhibits where you can learn about Goryokaku's history and a restaurant where you can dine while enjoying views of the Hakodate cityscape. You can also explore the history of the Boshin War.
