Ginzan Onsen
A retro hot spring town evoking Taisho-era romanticism. A fantastical landscape where wooden inns illuminated by gas lamps line both sides of the Ginzan River.
Nestled in the mountains of Obanazawa City in Yamagata Prefecture, Ginzan Onsen is a hot spring town where multi-story wooden inns built in the Taisho era line both banks of the river, as if you've slipped back in time. In winter, the fantastical sight created by the glow of gas lamps and snowy landscapes captivates many tourists. It is also known as the setting for the NHK drama 'Oshin,' and there are public baths offering day-use bathing. The spring water is a sodium chloride and sulfate hot spring with skin-beautifying properties.
