Stone-paved stroll through Magome-juku
A charming post town with stone pavements running along the steep slopes of the Nakasendo
Magome-juku, the 43rd post station of the 69 stations on the Nakasendo, is a distinctive post town featuring stone-paved slopes that make use of its hilly terrain. Known as the birthplace of literary master Shimazaki Toson, the Toson Memorial Museum offers visitors a chance to experience the world of 'Before the Dawn.' As you climb the slope while taking in the townscape of water mills and latticed doors, the magnificent view of Mount Ena unfolds before you. The approximately 8km mountain pass hike to neighboring Tsumago-juku is extremely popular with foreign tourists.
