Munakata Taisha and Okinoshima Remote Worship
An ancient shrine that continues to preserve the faith of the World Heritage Site "Sacred Island Where Gods Dwell" - Munakata and Okinoshima
Munakata Taisha is the head shrine of approximately 6,200 Munakata shrines nationwide, enshrining the three goddesses from Japanese mythology. Okinoshima, called the "Shosoin of the Sea," is a sacred island where 80,000 national treasures have been excavated, and landing by ordinary people is prohibited. The Shinpokan museum within the grounds of Hetsumiya displays artifacts excavated from Okinoshima. Takamiya Saijo is a mystical space that conveys the ancient form of nature worship to the present day.
