Maruoka Castle and the View from the Keep
坂井市, Fukui
A historical walk around Maruoka Castle's stone walls and keep, one of the Twelve Surviving Castles
Maruoka Castle is known as one of Japan's oldest surviving castles with an original keep. The unique stone-tile roof and naturally stacked stone walls create an elegant atmosphere, and from the keep reached by steep stairs, you can enjoy a panoramic view of Sakai Plains. In spring, around 400 cherry blossoms adorn the castle, and it's been selected as one of Japan's 100 Best Cherry Blossom Spots. You can also enjoy walking through the castle town and visiting the historical museum.
