Fukagawa Fudō Hall
The Tokyo branch of Narita-san Shinshō-ji Temple. Its charm lies in the powerful Goma prayers performed daily and the old downtown atmosphere of Monzen-nakacho.
A historic temple founded in 1703 as the Tokyo branch of Narita-san Shinshō-ji. The Goma prayers performed several times daily are a powerful experience, with the sound of drums and chanting echoing through the hall. The crystal statue of Fudō Myōō covering the walls of the inner Buddhist hall is also impressive. Along the approach are long-established Fukagawa rice bowl restaurants and traditional Japanese sweets shops where you can enjoy street food. On monthly festival days (the 1st, 15th, and 28th), the area bustles with street stalls. A stroll through Fukagawa's old neighborhoods is recommended, best enjoyed together with the adjacent Tomioka Hachiman Shrine.
