Tobe-yaki Pottery Painting Experience at Tobe-yaki Tourism Center

At the Tobe-yaki Tourism Center in Tobe Town, Ehime Prefecture, you can experience painting Tobe-yaki pottery, a traditional craft with about 230 years of history. Tobe-yaki is characterized by painting patterns with blue gosu on thick white porcelain. In the experience, you can choose your favorite base piece such as plates or cups, and freely paint using brushes. You can create a one-of-a-kind piece while referencing traditional Tobe-yaki designs such as arabesque patterns and geometric patterns. The joy of having it delivered to your home after about a month of firing is an added bonus. At the attached shop, you can purchase Tobe-yaki pottery directly from the kilns.
