Sadamisaki Cape and Sadamisaki Lighthouse
The westernmost tip of Shikoku, Sadamisaki Peninsula. The walking trail to the lighthouse offers spectacular views of the Bungo Channel and Kyushu.
The slender Sadamisaki Peninsula, extending from the western tip of Ehime Prefecture, is known as Japan's narrowest peninsula. A well-maintained 1.8km walking trail leads from the parking area to Sadamisaki Lighthouse at the tip, where you can enjoy hiking while viewing coastal plants like camellias and crinum lilies. Upon reaching the lighthouse, the Bungo Channel spreads out before you, and on clear days you can see Saganoseki in Oita Prefecture across the water. This is a rare location where both sunrise and sunset can be seen rising from and setting into the sea, with the sunset scenery being particularly breathtakingly beautiful. The drive along the peninsula's ridge road, lined with wind turbines, is also exhilarating.
