Yoro Valley: Awa Mata Falls and Autumn Foliage Hiking
Autumn foliage hiking in Yoro Valley, Chiba Prefecture's largest gorge. The walking trails along the stream from Awa Mata Falls are particularly popular.
Located in Otaki Town, Chiba Prefecture, Yoro Valley is the largest gorge on the Boso Peninsula and offers late autumn foliage viewing even in the Kanto region. Awa Mata Falls (Taka Falls), a 30-meter waterfall, is Chiba Prefecture's largest and creates a spectacular contrast with the autumn colors. A streamside walking trail about 2km downstream from the falls is developed as the 'Waterfall Viewing Course,' allowing visitors to see various waterfalls of different sizes. With peak foliage from late November to early December—the latest in the Kanto region—it's an appealing destination to enjoy autumn colors even after other spots have finished. Hot spring facilities are scattered throughout the surrounding area.
