Sensoji
Tokyo's oldest temple. The Thunder Gate's large lantern and the bustle of Nakamise Street are among Japan's most representative tourist attractions.
Said to have been founded in 628, it is Tokyo's oldest temple. A massive lantern 3.9 meters tall hangs from the symbolic Thunder Gate, and behind it extends approximately 250 meters of Nakamise Street leading to the main hall. Local specialties like Raijin Okoshi and Ningyo-yaki are displayed along the street, and eating while strolling is also a pleasure. After paying respects to Kannon in the main hall, the five-story pagoda and Dentouin Garden are also worth seeing. At night, it is illuminated, creating a fantastical atmosphere different from daytime. With approximately 30 million visitors annually, it is Tokyo's most representative tourist destination.
