Mud Volcano of Akan Lake Boke Walking Trail
Boke, a mud volcano where mud bubbles and spurts at the shores of Akan Lake. A walking trail where you can feel the breath of the Earth up close.
At the Boke walking trail located at the edge of Akan Lake's hot spring town, you can observe up close the mud volcano phenomenon where hot mud bubbles and spurts from underground. Boke, meaning "boiling place" in the Ainu language, presents a fantastical contrast between surrounding snow and steam in winter. The walking trail is approximately 1km of lakeside forest paths where you may encounter wild animals such as Hokkaido squirrels and woodpeckers. At night, it's illuminated creating a magical atmosphere.
