Yamagata Prefecture's Sagae City is Japan's finest cherry region. In June, you can experience cherry picking at orchards, harvesting Satoh Nishiki and Beni Shuhoh varieties. The cherries you pick directly from the branches by climbing a ladder are on a completely different level of sweetness and juiciness compared to what's sold in markets. The farm workers will teach you how to identify the most delicious fruit.
