Gassan Midsummer Lingering Snow Trekking
西川町, Yamagata
Walk through the wondrous scenery of Gassan where lingering snow remains even in midsummer, where snow and alpine plants coexist
Gassan, one of the Three Mountains of Dewa, is one of Japan's mountains where snow persists the longest. With enough snow for skiing even in July, midsummer trekking on lingering snow is an experience unique to Gassan. On slopes where snowmelt flows, alpine lilies and snow buttercups bloom in profusion, creating a magical landscape where white snow and colorful flowers coexist.
