Alpine Flora of Gassan
Alpine flower meadows seen on Gassan, one of the Dewa Sanzan mountains. The beauty of flowers blooming brilliantly during the short summer season is a must-see.
Gassan is the main peak of Dewa Sanzan at an elevation of 1,984 meters. In summer, about 350 species of alpine plants bloom brilliantly near the summit. The spectacular sight of flowers such as Nikkō false hellebore, Hakusan anemone, and chinguruma spreading across the landscape is truly a heavenly flower meadow. By using the lift from Gassan's 8th station, you can access the area relatively easily, and even beginners can enjoy viewing the alpine plants. The contrast between snow fields and flower meadows is beautiful, making it a spot where you can truly appreciate the splendor of Tōhoku's mountain scenery.
