Koya-san Okunoin Approach Path
Walk the Koya-san Okunoin approach path lined with towering cedar trees to the mausoleum of Kobo Daishi
Koya-san Okunoin is a sacred ground with over 200,000 gravestones lining the approximately 2km approach path, leading to the mausoleum where Kobo Daishi Kukai is said to continue his meditation even now. Ancient cedar trees hundreds of years old tower overhead, and the dimly lit path, even in daylight, is filled with a solemn atmosphere. Many tombs of historical military figures and notable people rest here, creating a space that mirrors Japanese history itself. During the nighttime tour, the light of the lanterns casts a magical glow.
