Kōyasan Danjogaran and Konpon Daito
The Danjogaran temple complex of Kōyasan, the sacred site founded by Kōbō Daishi Kūkai, and its vermillion Konpon Daito
The Danjogaran of Kōyasan is a sacred space first organized by Kūkai, where temple halls and pagodas including the Konpon Daito stand in a row. The Konpon Daito, standing 48.5 meters tall, is a vermillion two-storied pagoda with a three-dimensional mandala centered on Dainichi Nyorai enshrined within, allowing you to experience the esoteric Buddhist cosmic worldview. The autumn foliage of Kongō-dō, Mieidō, and the serpentine paths are also noteworthy, and by visiting them together with Oku-no-in, you can gain a complete understanding of Kōyasan.
