The Haru-nire Tree of Toyokoro and the Tokachi River Estuary
The symbol of Toyokoro - the haru-nire tree standing beside the Tokachi River and the grand nature of its estuary
The haru-nire tree of Toyokoro Town is a large Siberian elm standing alone on the riverbed of the Tokachi River with an age of approximately 150 years. Its appearance with two trunks leaning together is also called the 'Married Couple Tree,' and as a landscape symbolizing Hokkaido, it has been widely used in advertisements and posters. It displays different expressions throughout the four seasons, and especially in winter, its snow-covered form wrapped in morning mist appears magical. At the Tokachi River estuary, salmon can also be seen swimming upstream in autumn, allowing you to feel the drama of nature up close.
