Nanto Washi Papermaking Experience
Experience making original handmade washi paper postcards in Gokayama, a traditional washi paper village
The Gokayama area of Nanto City is a region where the tradition of washi papermaking has been passed down alongside gassho-style farmhouse settlements. At the Washi Experience Hall, you can experience authentic papermaking by scooping up paper pulp made from kozo fibers. Create original postcards and letter paper with incorporated flowers and plants, which you can take home after they dry. The facility also features an exhibition room about the history of washi and a shop selling washi accessories. You can enjoy these experiences together with visits to the gassho-style farmhouse settlements, which are a World Heritage site.
