Nanto・Aiokura Gassho-zukuri Settlement
南砺市, Toyama
Quietly explore the gassho-zukuri houses of the World Heritage Aiokura Settlement and the foothills across the four seasons
The Aiokura Gassho-zukuri Settlement stands alongside the World Heritage Shirakawa-go, yet with relatively fewer tourists, allowing for peaceful exploration. Twenty gassho-zukuri houses remain, and some operate as minshuku (traditional guesthouses). The winter illumination creates a magical scene as the snow-covered settlement appears to float. You can also view performances of Gokayama's folk song 'Kokiriko Bushi,' encountering the timeless original landscape of old Japan.
