Sumida Ward Indigo Dyeing Experience Workshop

Sumida Ward is a textile production area with a tradition continuing from the Edo period, and multiple dye workshops are still operating today. In the natural indigo dyeing experience, you learn shibori techniques such as rubber band resist and board resist, and create one-of-a-kind hand towels and T-shirts. The moment when fabric is dipped in the indigo vat and exposed to air, transforming from white to green and then to a deep indigo blue, is truly moving.
