Koishikawa Botanical Garden is Japan's oldest botanical garden, founded in 1684, and is an affiliated facility of Tokyo University. Approximately 4,000 species of plants are cultivated on a site of about 16 hectares, including plants related to scientific history such as Newton's apple tree and cuttings of Mendel's grape vine. The greenhouse displays carnivorous plants, a model of Rafflesia, and rare plants from around the world. It is also known as the birthplace of Somei Yoshino cherry blossoms in spring, where visitors can appreciate the beauty of nature throughout the four seasons alongside the history of botany.
