Awa Odori Year-Round Experience
Beyond the August festival, you can experience Awa Odori year-round. At the Awa Odori Hall, you can learn the basics of the dance and dance together with the instructors.
Tokushima's Awa Odori is one of Japan's three major Bon dances, and the August main event attracts over 400,000 dancers and spectators. At the Awa Odori Hall, you can enjoy demonstrations and hands-on experiences throughout the year. A popular program lets you learn the basic steps from professional dancers (ren) and then dance together with them. In the spirit of 'Fools who dance and fools who watch—if you're going to be a fool anyway, you might as well dance!' anyone can participate casually, even first-timers. You can also learn about the history at the museum inside the hall.
