Memuro Town is one of Japan's premier sugar beet producing regions. During the autumn harvest season, you can enjoy an agricultural experience hand-harvesting giant beets. These beets look similar to turnips but are surprisingly sweet. After harvesting, you can taste freshly pressed beet syrup and make sweets using sugar beet sugar. It's a valuable opportunity to learn directly from the field how Japanese sugar is made.
