Ashikaga School is Japan's oldest school, which reached its heyday during the Muromachi period and is designated as a National Historical Site. Within its grounds, where the Confucius Temple and abbot's quarters have been restored, visitors can experience reading the Analects aloud. The adjacent Banaji Temple served as the clan temple of the Ashikaga clan, with its main hall designated as a National Treasure. The large ginkgo tree on the temple grounds displays magnificent golden foliage in autumn, and you can also enjoy the history of Ashikaga textiles in this area.
