Teshio Clam Digging Experience
天塩町, Hokkaido
Summer experience digging Japanese littleneck clams at the mouth of the Teshio River
The area near the mouth of the Teshio River, which flows into the Sea of Japan, is a producer of high-quality Japanese littleneck clams. In summer, you can experience clam digging at the riverbank, mingling with local people. When you wade into the water up to your knees and dig through the sand, black, large clams come pouring out. Taking the clams you harvest home and making clam soup is the best. Local instructors will teach you the location and method.
