Koyasan is the head temple of the Shingon sect founded by Kobo Daishi Kukai in 816. Situated at an elevation of about 900 meters, it is a religious city with over 100 temples lined up. Along the approach to Okunoin are approximately 200,000 gravestones, and there are many sights to see such as the Konpon Daito of Danjo Garan. Temple lodging experiences are also popular.
