Iriomote Island is the second largest island in Okinawa Prefecture after Okinawa Main Island, with approximately 90% of the island covered with subtropical jungle. It was registered as a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site in 2021, and rare flora and fauna, including the Iriomote cat, inhabit the island. Mangrove kayaking and trekking are popular activities.
