Taketomi Island is a small island about 10 minutes by express boat from Ishigaki Island, where red tile-roofed houses, white sandy roads, and traditional settlements surrounded by stone walls remain. It's popular for experiencing tours of the settlement by water buffalo cart and swimming at Kondoi Beach. It has been selected as a National Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings.
