The Atomic Bomb Dome is the ruins of the Hiroshima Prefecture Industrial Promotion Hall destroyed by the atomic bombing on August 6, 1945. It was registered as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site in 1996 to convey the tragedy of nuclear weapons and the importance of peace to future generations. Together with the adjacent Peace Memorial Park, it is visited by people from around the world.
