Mount Aso is an active volcano with one of the world's largest calderas (18 km east-west, 25 km north-south). Smoke rises from the crater, and visitors can sense the breath of the Earth up close at the crater viewing area. The grand grassland scenery of Kusasenri that spreads around the area is also a highlight.
