Yakushima is a nature-rich island registered as a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site in 1993. The Jomon Cedar, estimated to be 2,000 to 7,200 years old, can be reached via a round-trip trekking of approximately 10 hours. The moss-covered forest is also said to be the model for the film "Princess Mononoke".
