Kasuga Taisha is a shrine dedicated to the tutelary deity of the Fujiwara clan, founded in 768, and is registered as a UNESCO World Heritage site. About 3,000 lanterns line the grounds, and in February and August during the Mantoro festival, all the lanterns are illuminated, creating a magical scene.
