Stone-Paved Streets and Retro Western Buildings of Shimoda Perry Road Preserving the History of the Port Opening in the Late Edo Period
Perry Road in Shimoda City is a historic alley said to have been walked by Admiral Perry in 1854. Along the Heiratsukatsu River, rows of willow trees and stone pavement continue, and Meiji to Taisho era Western buildings and namako-textured buildings create a retro atmosphere. Cafes and antique shops are scattered throughout, and you can enjoy exploring history while strolling the streets. The June hydrangea festival season is particularly vibrant.
