Oigawa Railway SL Train Journey
A nostalgic railway journey riding Oigawa Railway's SL steam locomotive through tea fields and gorges
Oigawa Railway is Japan's only railway company that operates SL steam locomotives almost every day. The approximately 37km journey from Shin-Kanaya Station to Senzu Station aboard the SL that slowly runs while emitting black smoke allows you to immerse yourself in the nostalgia of the Taisho and Showa eras. From the train windows, the pristine waters of Oigawa River, tea fields, suspension bridges, and other original landscapes of Shizuoka unfold, and there's also time to take commemorative photos during stops at unmanned stations along the way. From Senzu Station, you can also enjoy connecting to a mini train that climbs steep grades using the Abt rack system.
