Gold Panning Experience at Toi Gold Mine
Treasure hunting experience panning for real gold dust from water basins at an Edo period gold mine site
Toi Gold Mine in Izu City is a historic gold mine that boasted the second-largest production after Sado Gold Mine during the Edo period. The mine shaft tour showcases exhibits recreating mining methods from that era, where you can learn about the history of gold. The most popular attraction is the gold panning experience. Using a panning pan in a dedicated water basin, visitors search for gold dust and can take home the gold they collect in a capsule. The Guinness-certified exhibit of the world's largest gold nugget (250kg) is also a must-see. It's a very popular spot with families.
