Tsuwano Town is a castle town located in western Shimane Prefecture, known for its beautiful scenery called the 'Little Kyoto of Sanin.' Colorful koi swim in the moat along Tono-machi Street, and white-walled samurai residences and merchant houses with red Sekishu tile roofs create an atmospheric landscape. Cultural facilities are abundant, including the thousand torii gates of Taiko-dani Inari Shrine, Mori Ogai's former residence, and the Anno Mitsuaki Museum of Art. Visiting by the SL Yamaguchi steam locomotive is also recommended, and combining nostalgic train travel with a castle town stroll is a popular way to experience the town.
