Authentic pottery experience participating in stoking firewood in a Shigaraki anagama kiln
Shigaraki is one of Japan's Six Ancient Kilns and is famous as a pottery village known for tanuki figurines. Some kiln producers offer experience programs where you can participate in the firing of an anagama. Over 3 days, you can engage in the authentic process of continuously stoking firewood and firing at temperatures exceeding 1,250 degrees. The natural glazes and kiln transformations born from the power of flame are all unique, and you can experience the dialogue between fire and clay.
