Ōmi Hachiman · Hachiman-bori Water Village Tour
Cruise the picturesque waterside of Hachiman-bori, a filming location for period dramas, by hand-rowed boat
Hachiman-bori in Ōmi Hachiman is a moat of the castle town built by Toyotomi Hidetsugu, with beautiful scenery where white-walled clay storehouses and stone walls are reflected in the water. On the water village tour, you can enjoy a cruise of about 30 minutes while listening to the history guided by a boatman in a traditional Japanese boat. In spring, cherry blossoms color the moat, and in autumn, autumn leaves do the same. The atmospheric scenery, which has been used as a filming location for period dramas many times, feels as if you've traveled back in time to the Edo period.
