The Sayama Hills in Tokorozawa City are a mixed deciduous forest in Musashino believed to be the model setting for 'My Neighbor Totoro.' At the parent-child nature classroom held here, you can experience programs that teach the nature of satoyama through all five senses, including insect collecting, wildflower observation, birdwatching, and composting fallen leaves. A naturalist guide accompanies the group and patiently answers children's questions. Rhinoceros beetle and stag beetle observation sessions are popular summer programs.
