Okegawa Nakasendo: Row of Historic Storehouses
Stroll through the Edo period storehouse-style streets remaining in Okegawa, a post town on the Nakasendo
Saitama Prefecture's Okegawa City has a history of flourishing as a post town on the Nakasendo's 69 stations. Along the old Nakasendo, merchant houses with storehouse-style architecture are still scattered throughout, allowing visitors to stroll while experiencing the atmosphere of the Edo period. The row of storehouses, including the Shimamura Family Residence, is particularly impressive and evokes the prosperity of the past when the area flourished as a safflower production center.
