Handmade Washi Postcard Creation in Ogawa
Experience creating UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Hosokawa Paper with your own hands through traditional washi-making
Ogawa is known as the 'Washi Village,' home to Hosokawa Paper with a 1,300-year history, registered as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. At the Washi Experience Learning Center, you can experience traditional hand-weaving by dissolving Japanese mulberry fiber in water and creating paper using a paper-making frame. You can also create original postcards and fans by embedding pressed flowers and maple leaves into the paper. The texture of dried washi feels completely different from commercial products, and when held up to light, the beauty of the fibers is truly breathtaking.
