Arita Town is the birthplace of Japanese porcelain and a production area for Arita ware with 400 years of history. The kiln street in the Uchiyama District is lined with famous kilns such as the Kakiemon and Imaemon Kilns, and at direct sales shops you can purchase high-quality ceramics at prices lower than regular rates. The Arita Pottery Fair, held annually during Golden Week in May, attracts approximately 1 million visitors from across Japan and is the largest pottery fair in the country.
